Bangkok top of the pile

BANGKOK, 8 February 2016: Bangkok claimed the top tourist spot in the Asia-Pacific region in 2015, based on international overnight visits, according to MasterCard’s Inaugural Asia-Pacific Destinations Index. According to the index, Bangkok has increased its lead over the pack as the region’s most popular destination, with international overnight visitors breaking the 20 million mark, last year, for the first time increasing 28.6% from 2014. The inaugural index provided a ranking of 167 destinations from 22 countries across Asia-Pacific. Thailand dominated the top 10 destinations, taking three of the top 10 spots. Bangkok was in first place (21.9 million); Phuket in fifth place (9.3 million) and the coastal city of Pattaya in eighth place (8.1 million). Bangkok led the field following by Singapore and Tokyo in Japan with attracting 11.8 million visits each
