Tony Blair at the Board of Investment

The former British Labour premier, Tony Blair, is giving the keynote address at this month’s Board of Investment (BOI) seminar for chief executives at the Plaza Athenee Hotel, Bangkok, whilst Thai prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra will host a gala dinner for the delegates at Government House. The event is seen as the Pheu Thai led government’s decision to attract more foreign investment after the economic and social disaster of major flooding last year. About 500 senior business people are attending the seminar to exchange business strategies in today’s fast-changing economies. Blair is speaking on the challenges and opportunities of a globalised world. Other speakers include John Coyne, CEO of Western Digital which was badly affected in its computer production by the floods. The forum is being jointly sponsored by the BOI, the Industry Ministry and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau. BOI secretary general Atchaka Sibunruang said the convention, starting January 16, will also offer round-table discussions on Thailand’s investment strategies for sustainable development and will talk about ways to make the country the prime investment destination in the Asian region. Guests from more than 35 countries are expected to attend, including from Japan, UK and US.
